Current Definition

Contemporary management theory argues that in the information age corporations must become learning organizations. One way to interpret this is to conceive of learning as fundamentally "learning, social" or "learning, situated". In this view, learning takes place in terms of the structures and practices of an organization. That is, an organization can be structured so that learning is supported structurally. For instance, an organizational memory can be created for the capture of information as it is created and its delivery when relevant. Beyond the technical problems of information storage and retrieval, the organization must solve social issues of integrating this capture and delivery into the tacit and explicit practices of the community.
